“…Broken Flowers bears the burden of the audience’s somewhat conflicting expectations regarding the impromptu Jarmusch brand of deadpan humor and the more carefully prepared and structured Murray brand. Mr. Jarmusch’s admirers look for him to be more improvisatory; Mr. Murray’s look for him to be funnier. Both men have had to sacrifice some of their individuality in order to bring a story of many moods home safely. I think they’ve succeeded, for the most part. ..”
