Program January – Newsletter: Become Creators of Peace

Dear friends, I send you a message from the Taizé European Meeting in Strasbourg. It is a veryTaize strasbourg friendly gathering with such a crowd of young people. Our group gather in our Dominican priory church in the mornings together with more than a hundred other from Spain, France, Hungury, Poland, Romania and other countries. Br Alois, the prior of Taizé, said in his opening meditation on Saturday evening:
“Create and consolidate a community of friendship: istn’t that the contribution that the Christians can give for the future of our communities? There are so many proplems to affront. Unemployment, poverty, inegalities between rich and pour within our countries and between the countries, and, related to that, the degradation of our environment. Many young people aspire towards an other economic organisation. Can we look for answers to these challenges without creating bonds of friendship? Christ, through his Holy Spirit, invites us to leave behind the spirit of rivalry that lead to opposition, injustices, and instead become creators of friendship, constructors of peace.”
Creators of friendship, constructors of peace? Let’s start now! Let’s be inventive, each one of us! I went to a seminary on ecology yesterday. They showed very concrete exemples. Like two women is an English city who started to plant seeds in green areas. People could then come and pick the vegetables – on condition that they took seeds form them and planted. TOday it’s a city full of vegetables for everyone- and the rate of crime went down with 20%. People started to talk to each other, and got friends! We have to be concrete!
Here’s the program for January. Note that in February we have our FilmDays again February 20th to 22nd. In January  I’m in Lund for the Taizé prayer Jan 7th and Mass and lunch the 8th. See you.
Happy 2014 to all of you.
yours br Björn

From body to body -it´s CHRISTMAS!

“Nobody is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord.” – Pope Francis quotes another pope in his recently published letter  Evangelii  gaudium(the Joy of the Gospel), you find it in English here: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium_en.html

At Christmas we celebrate this joy: God took on a body. A body! We know the joy and the pain our bodies causes us. Perhaps we want to escape this body, or at least change it a bit. The body is such a drama – but what would we be without our bodies? A complete nothing.
We smile to each other, we hug, share words, caress, we experience beauty, we hate, we feel pain – all takes place in our bodies.
God took an a body so that he can enter into contact with us. He does this through his body in Jesus Christ. Then he can love and affect us. Body to body!  He affects us, as we affect one another only through our bodies. Vapeur can not love, for that a body is needed.
Love does transform. In his life, death and ressurection the body of Jesus is transformed. That´s why he can smile to us, hug us, kiss us – in our hearts, today. Because his body was transformed in love, he can now share his life. -“body of Christ” is said to us when we receive his body in the Eucharist. And it is indeed his body! It is his body, now exceeding all limits, space, time, materia.  A transformed body  that is free. That´s the freedom we long for, for ourselves, too. That´s being a Christian.
The beloved (that´s us) in The Songs of Songs in the Bible says:
“My love lifts up in his voice, he says to me,”Come then, my beloved, my lovely one, come. For see, winter is passed, the rains are over and gone. Flowers are appearing on the earth.”

Merry Christmas!

Break Through! – Letter Advent

When now approaching Christmas – what are we really expecting?
Not first of all a little nice story about something that happened 2000 years ago.
Rather it is to expect: Our possibility today to make a break through in our lives. Arriving at something that is new and fresh.  A new fascination of life!
What happened in Bethlehem is the beginning of this event. Reading the stories in the first chapters of Luke (do it!) is an outer action that denotes an inner: God taking on himself his humanity, Our life opened towards eternity!

For that we have have to wait and long.  Drugs of various kinds (consumption…) is something that gives immediate satisfaction. But as is well known – a satisfaction that does not last. The patient waiting for relief (lets call it suffering) works and accomplishes transformation and satisfaction from within. Receiving the child Jesus (equivalent as he is to our own inner child: “be like a child…”) opens to find meaning in all what is life: breathing the fresh air a winter day, meeting with someone and enjoying his or her company, reading a book, go to work a rainy morning.
Why not spend some time everyday the coming weeks, 20 minutes, one hour, to just sit in silence, pronouncing “You” into this silence. Just being,  just resting , not doing, just waiting. I assure you, time is not lacking, there is plenty of time.

Come the our Christmas-Good Bye Wed 18th!, look beneath,

Some are also leaving after a time in Lund. I think specially of Nolwenn who is leaving for a community in Dalarna in Sweden after three years in Lund. Good luck to Nolwenn and to others leaving Lund.

I wish you all a GOD JUL and GOTT 2014! See you, br Björn
